Scotty Nguyen: You Call This One And Its All Over, Baby |
 | |
Deck in hand
Scotty Nguyen likes the idea that he was born with a deck in his hand. He says that during his birth his hand was deformed into a fist. When doctors at last managed to open his little fist there was a deck of card in it. So, his destiny was predetermined. In 1979 Scotty came to the United States (from South Vietnam) to become a poker player. But unlike many players who first of all began to try their skills in all known types of games he began as a dealer. This experience gave him an opportunity to make his own list of great poker mistakes. So, when he began to play for himself he was able to avoid them.
Scotty wins
”Scotty wins” - is one of the Nguyen’s favorite quotes. It’s understandable. What can be better than to hear that you’ve won? Scotty likes to say: “Winning is everything, baby!” In fact, he always adds “baby”. And all the games he play cannot do without this “baby”. Even at the WSOP-1998 when Scotty was sitting with:

And Kevin McBride had:

Kevin hoped to make a straight flush, Scotty… Scotty had trips at the flop: three nines. The board look very inspiring:

Now Kevin hoped that he’ll take a part of the pot. Nguyen said then: “You call this one and it’s all over, baby”. And it really was, as you guess. Scotty took it all: $1.000.000.
Baby, you so beautiful!
Nguyen is beautiful: an incomparable showman and an unsurpassed player. He is always confident. I’ve never seen more confident player. That’s why he is one of the biggest money winner of all time. The other key to understanding his success is his playing style. Like all top players he plays aggressively. No – VERY AGGRESSIVELY. He always says: “I play to win, not lose. Scotty Nguyen gonna win it tomorrow, baby”.
