Hal Fowler, The Greatest Upset In The History Of The WSOP
Hal Fowler is one of the most unpopular poker players. His win in 1979 even called he greatest upset in the history of the WSOP. Its also known that Hal couldn even pay for his seat at the WSOP. And it was Benny Binion who loaned to him money.
Though his win was called he greatest upset not because of that... Once he was at the final table with... $2,000. Not a big sum, huh? 2,000 out of the $500,000 he had. And with this $2,000 he played against Johnny Moss and Bobby Baldwin. As its said in Tom McEvoys and T.J. Cloutiers book Tournament Practice Hands: Although that is not how most professionals would play when they had a big chip lead, being the amateur that he claimed to be, Hal played any two cards.
He won only once - in 1979. I wonder how he managed... I think he didn expect that: Fowlers reaction when he won the title was amazing - he just sat there like a mannequin.
However, his poker career didn last long. Because of complications from diabetes that hurt his eyesight and his legs.
